Default PLA Input Reports Examples

There are 4 different reports under the Default PLA Input Reports category, PLA Input Student Passing Grade by Course End Date, PLA Input Student Passing Grade Within 90 Days (Enrollment Start), PLA Input: Students passing within 90 days (Enrollment Creation), and  PLA Input Student Passing Grade by Term End Date (Canvas).

PLA Input Student Passing Grade by Course End Date Report

this Predictive Learning Analytics input report uses the course final grade as the success metric and trains the model on all courses with course ending dates in the past. Only users with roles categorized as "Learners" are included in the report. Courses in terms without end dates are excluded. Predictors (model features) are based on standardized metrics of participation in activities, especially Quizzes, Assignments, and Forums.

GENERAL REPORT OVERVIEW

  • Search for data in your report instantly. Confirm columns are included in the search under 'Search Data Columns'.
  • Filter your data and/or dates!  Most reports include several filters (to the right of the search box) and a time filter. 
  • Personalize the columns in your report by clicking 'Columns'. 
  • Share your data via email or scheduled report.
  • Export your data in an XLS or CSV.
  • Edit columns, calculations, formulas, and formatting by clicking 'Edit'.

Total Rows: Total number of rows in this report. 

Note: In order to have better prediction results, you need to have at least 1000 rows in the report. 

Proportion Passed: The proportion/rate of students who passed the course. 

Proportion Current: The current number of rows in the report is divided by the total number of rows. Note: There have to be some "not current" rows to train the model.

THIS REPORT'S COLUMNS:

User ID: A unique value for each user in the connected platform.

Student: A unique name for each user. Usually, the name the user uses to log in.

Course ID: A unique identifier for the course in the connected platform.

Course Name: The name of the course.

Enrollment ID: A unique identifier for enrollment in the connected platform.
Course Grade: The user's current grade for the course. 
Passed: Student passed with a grade >= 59.
Course End Date: The date of the course ends.
Current: Based on Enrollment Starts At and Default Expected Duration (Stored Calculation).
Visits/Activity: Natural log of visits by the learner divided by the count of activities in the course.
Time/Activity: The total time spent by the learner is divided by the number of activities in the course.
Participation/Activity: Total participation by the learner divided by the number of activities in the course.
Submissions/Assignments: Assignment submissions by the learner are divided by the number of assignments in the course.
Attempts/Quiz: Quiz attempts per learner are divided by the number of quizzes in the course.
Posts/Forum: Natural log of posts by the learner divided by the number of discussion forums in the course.

THIS REPORT'S COLUMNS:

Course Name: The name of the course.

Enrollment ID: A unique identifier for enrollment in the connected platform.

Course Grade: The user's current grade for the course. 

Passed: Student passed with a grade >= 59.

Enrollment Starts At: The starting time/date of the user's enrollment in the course; the user is not expected to begin work in the course until this date.

Default Expected Duration: The duration of the enrollment. 

Current: Based on Enrollment Starts At and Default Expected Duration (Stored Calculation).

Visits/Activity: Natural log of visits by the learner divided by the count of activities in the course.

Time/Activity: The total time spent by the learner is divided by the number of activities in the course.

Participation/Activity: Total participation by the learner divided by the number of activities in the course.

Submissions/Assignments: Assignment submissions by the learner are divided by the number of assignments in the course.

Attempts/Quiz: Quiz attempts per learner are divided by the number of quizzes in the course.

Posts/Forum: Natural log of posts by the learner divided by the number of discussion forums in the course.

 

PLA Input: Students passing within 90 days (Enrollment Creation) Report

This report is used to train a Predictive Learning Analytics model. The success target is achievement of a passing grade within 90 days of Enrollment Start Date. Predictors (model features) are based on standardized metrics of participation in available course activities of three main types (Quizzes, Assignments, and Forums).

Enrollment Created At: The date at which the record of enrollment details for this user in this course was created.

Default Expected Duration: The duration of the enrollment. 

Expected End Date: Enrollment Creation Date + Default Expected Duration.

Current: Based on Enrollment Starts At and Default Expected Duration (Stored Calculation).

Course Grade Calculation Title: The percentage of maximum points assigned by the grader to this submission.

Passed: Student passed with a grade >= 59.

Visits/Activity: Natural log of visits by the learner divided by the count of activities in the course.

Time/Activity: The total time spent by the learner is divided by the number of activities in the course.

Participation/Activity: Total participation by the learner divided by the number of activities in the course.

Submissions/Assignments: Assignment submissions by the learner are divided by the number of assignments in the course.

This Predictive Learning Analytics input report uses the course final grade as the success metric and trains the model on all courses with term ending dates in the past. Only users with roles categorized as "Learners" are included in the report. Courses in terms without end dates are excluded. Predictors (model features) are based on standardized metrics of participation in activities especially Quizzes, Assignments and Forums.

Note: This report is for Canvas only, you have to connect Canvas connection to see and use it.
